About Me

HOW I GOT STARTED

I started off as a self-taught front-end developer. As a kid, I would build Tumblr themes from scratch line-by-line with HTML and CSS as a hobby. Whenever I saw a website I was inspired by, I would look at the source code to try to rebuild elements I liked on my own website through trial and error. This process helped me discover the connections between structure and design and developing my systems thinking.

Fast forward, I got my first web design role at Tebra, a healthcare SaaS startup building websites for a variety of healthcare providers. My most recent role was at Modernize where I has the privilege to wear many hats and take ownership of a range of projects such as designing internal pages for CRO and A/B testing, conducting user testing, and training junior designers. However, my proudest accomplishment to date was leading the buildout of the Modernize design system.

My passion for Product and UX design is fueled my relentless curiosity. I enjoy being constantly challenged and discovering new approaches to problem solving that allows me to leverage my technical skills while also collaborating with others. I enjoy building design systems because I know having a solid foundation allow teams to scale, move fast, and deliver seamless handoffs.

PHILOSOPHY

For me, good design goes beyond making something "look pretty". Of course that it's important, but as a designer it is just as imperative to articulate how design can solve user and business problems.

My approach goes beyond design, but I am also asking questions, actively listening, and striving to fully understand the problem and the broader system it exists within. I want to ensure that I am making data-informed solutions that are grounded in evidence and probability. Design also sits at the intersection between multiple teams thus, I believe in a culture grounded in trust, understanding, and open communication.

What I love about being a designer is that learning never stops. I’m always finding ways to evolve myself (personally and professionally) and further refine my craft. I get the most energized when working with others, and exchanging new ideas or ways of thinking about a problem. I am a firm believer in mentorship and fostering a community we where can uplift and learn from one another. I have had the pleasure to work with some amazing mentors and continue to welcome the expertise and guidance from others. All the while, wanting to give back and support and share knowledge with others.

WHO I AM OUTSIDE OF WORK

I like watching movies of all kinds, and I am big Star Wars fan. I also maintain that DC Studios is better than Marvel (especially now with James Gunn DCU), and you are welcome to tell me I'm wrong.

I enjoying traveling, eating good food, and experience life to the fullest. I like to laugh, make people laugh, and not take life too seriously.

Some of my other hobbies include working out, reading, watching sports, and photography. I also have a 5 year old corgi named Lucky.
